An Open letter to the community - 2021 Gladstone Harbour Festival

The Gladstone Harbour Festival is back!

An open Letter to the Community

The Gladstone Harbour Festival Committee, has been working around the clock doing everything possible to ensure the 2021 Festival will go ahead.

This has not been easy. The festival committee is basically a small team of volunteers who have battled the odds to stage a festival for our community this year in these unprecedented times.

The 2021 Festival will look and feel different as some events have changed or unfortunately will not go ahead at all under a Covid safe plan that complies with Queensland Health requirements.

The Covid-19 restrictions have had a huge impact on our ability to stage a full festival program of entertainment and events this year but we are doing our very best to present the best Harbour Festival possible.

Like the rest of the Gladstone community, the Festival committee has struggled financially.Covid-19 and the cancellation of the 2020 Festival has had a major financial impact on our ability to raise much needed funds to continually present high-standard activity and entertainment for the Easter program.

Under the conditions of the Covid Safe plan the festival site this year has to be fully fenced. This will require many of our volunteers to be redeployed as marshalls at the entrances to make sure the event is Covid safe. A casualty of this plan is the Festival’s much-loved and self supported Hamburger and Fish & Chip stalls. We simply will not have the man-power to run them.

One of the committee’s long held objectives is to bring something very special to the 2022 Festival as we celebrate a major milestone - our 60th Anniversary We are hoping to present a very special occasion - something the community will proudly celebrate - 60 years of the Gladstone Harbour Festival.

The Festival Committee’s primary objective is and always will be, to ensure the Harbour Festival remains FREE and accessible to all members of our community. However, this year we will be asking the community and visitors to make a gold coin donation (or any loose change you can spare) towards the staging of the 60th Harbour Festival in 2022. Donations will be gratefully received at the Festival marquee which will be located just inside the entrance gate to the Festival site. By making a donation to the not-for-profit Harbour Festival you will be playing a vital role in enabling us to deliver a diverse, artistic program of free activities and entertainment in 2022.

In the meantime we look forward to this year’s Harbour Festival and to welcome back our community, supporters, sponsors and visitors . Your involvement and encouragement is vitally important this year and will help get our Festival back on track as one of Queensland’s biggest and best FREE events.

Thank you for taking the time to read this open letter.
